Please join your fellow members for a virtual happy hour discussion about how we, as union members and city workers, can fight racism in our workplace and our community. This event is hosted by a new subcommittee of PROTEC17 members at the City of Portland, organizing to work in solidarity with the broader Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.

Register in advance for this meeting at:

Before the meeting, we encourage folks to read this short article — though please still join us even if you don’t have a chance to read it. For further background, if you have time, you might consider reading this Paul Prescod article (~5 minutes) and this article from the AFL-CIO (~20 minutes). We will use these articles as a jumping off point to talk about questions like:

  • How can unions be a good vehicle for anti-racist organizing?
  • What kinds of demands could we, as union members, make on the city to make our workplaces and the city as a whole more racially just?
  • What kinds of leverage do city workers and our unions possess to further racial justice goals?

We look forward to this discussion!

Please reach out to PROTEC17 member Neil Loehlein or your Union Representative Rachel Whiteside.
